August 22 - 29, 2008  Petersburg to Ketchikan, Alaska

Join Don Paulson and Dolphin Charters for a photographic trip of a lifetime aboard the Delphinus, a comfortable, 50-foot custom trawler.

We glide through some of the most spectacular channels and fjords in southeast Alaska as we leave the quaint fishing community of Petersburg.  Picture book beauty is enhanced by close-up encounters with bears and humpback whales, bow-riding porpoises, and eagles. We will go ashore to photograph and walk through rare and beautiful old growth temperate forests. Nights will be at lovely anchorages where we won't see another human soul.

We will cruise through exceptionally scenic Frederick Sound and the very best humpback viewing anywhere.  Then get ready for an enthralling encounter - Black bears at Anan Creek!  Anan Creek is simply the best place to view black bears catching and feeding on salmon thrashing upstream.  Anan Creek flows through a wonderful old growth forest with waterfalls. Chances are good that we'll also see grizzlies at Anan.

Photography is our main activity. You will photograph alongside professional nature photographer, Don Paulson both on shore and aboard the Delphinus. Don will be available throughout the trip for any help or photo advice you may need.  His passion for photography is contagious and you will be inspired to try new and creative ways to make photographs. If you are new to photography, Don will put you at ease with his knack for clear and simple explanations to your questions.  Advanced photographers will benefit from Don’s extensive knowledge and many years of working as a full-time nature photographer. Most evenings we will eagerly download and view our photos for the day. Don will be available to help you with any of your downloading or Photoshop questions.
