Whales, Bears and Glaciers

A Photo Tour with Don Paulson

through Dolphin Charters

July10 to July 18, 2009  Hoonah to Petersburg

Join Don Paulson and Dolphin Charters for an unforgettable Alaskan adventure. Based aboard the Delphinus, a comfortable, 50-foot custom trawler, you will witness the incredible breaching, lunging and bubble-net feeding humpback whales.  You'll be able to photograph and observe these giants as they feed on krill and herring. The grandeur of the scenery, with its calving glaciers and “ice gardens”, is equal to its wildlife.  We will stay in some of the most beautiful anchorages in Southeast Alaska with great concentrations of nesting bald eagles. We can go ashore most days to explore new places, enjoy flowers, and take time to photograph this pageantry of splendor.

We will visit Pack Creek Bear Preserve, simply one of the best places anywhere to watch grizzly bears and their playful cubs. These are full-size coastal grizzlies, approximately 30 percent larger than interior grizzlies.  Our observation spot is a creek mouth on Kootznahoo Island where bears are accustomed to the presence of people. This means that you will have one of the best opportunities found anywhere to photograph grizzly bears just being bears.

This trip is ideal for photography enthusiasts. You will photograph alongside professional nature photographer Don Paulson, both on shore and aboard the Delphinus. Don will be available throughout the trip for any help or photo advice you may need.  His passion for photography is contagious and you will be inspired to try new and creative ways to make photographs. If you are new to photography, Don will put you at ease with his knack for clear and simple explanations to your questions.  Advanced photographers will benefit from Don’s extensive knowledge and many years of working as a full-time nature photographer.  In the evenings you may wish to download and view your photos for the day. Don will be available to help you with any of your downloading or photo editing questions.

Cost: $4395 Limited to eight people.
