Alabama Hills
Sunrise, Mount Whitney
One of my favorite places to camp and photograph is in the Alabama Hills near Lone Pine, California. Kathy and I were lucky enough to be there this month right after a snow storm. Clouds parted just as the first light shown on Mount Whitney. You can see more photos from our spring photo adventure on my Facebook page.
Zen Garden
I enjoyed making this collage of three fall-color images using Adobe Photoshop. The final composite image is very high resolution and ideal for large format printing. I like the serene feel of the rippled water and stones so I titled the image, “Zen Garden”.

Our Last Evening in San Diego

- Sunset, San Diego, California
Our last day in San Diego ended with an incredible light show. Kathy and I were in the right spot at the right time to capture the waterfront bathed in this sweet light…
The Urban Jungle

The Urban Jungle - San Diego
Kathy and I are visiting friends in San Diego for a few days and strolled the waterfront area around Seaport Village last evening. The warm sunset light, trees, boats, and skyscrapers made wonderful Urban Landscape subjects. In this photo Kathy used her telephoto lens to capture tree branches against the sunset-lit face of the Marriott Hotel.
Teaching at Rancho La Puerta

- Evening at Rancho La Puerta

Rancho La Puerta

It was a rewarding week of teaching photography at Rancho La Puerta in Tecate, Mexico. Kathy and I started the week with my “Nature as Art” slide show accompanied by Tom Barabas live on the Piano. Morning classes covered “Camera Basics”, “The Art of Seeing”, and “Understanding Light” and evening walks were timed for sunset when the grounds and paths were lit with lights. We met several interesting and inspiring people, including Life Coach, Richard Leider – Even rubbed shoulders with California Governor, Jerry Brown. While I was teaching classes, in-the-field sessions, and private tutoring sessions, Kathy dedicated herself to Yoga and fitness classes, connecting with people, and helping me whenever needed. After a week at Rancho La Puerta, nurturing our minds, bodies and spirits, we both felt refreshed, renewed and energized.
A Day at Bloedel Reserve

The Bloedel Reserve on Bainbridge Island is a wonderful place to make photographs just about anytime of the year. This week the fall colors were at their best – here are a few photos from a morning of photography…
